    Hey gang!

What a great list! I've got some before & after stuff to share with our house. Those projects have been consuming lots of time this summer. We've installed centralair & heat, finished off garage, and got a few new windows. We hardscaped the front using flagstones, bricks, and drough-tolerant native plants. Last week the house was sandblasted - what a mess! We're going from icky-70's brown to a bright, happy, french-fry golden yellow. Once that is finished we can finally put out the recycled crushed glass & rock in back yard. Whew!

Now that Fall is coming I'm ready to bring my projects indoors. I'm starting my first major mosaic project - our kitchen table. I hope to finish it by Christmas :)

I LOVE home improvements! Anything we can do to make our homes more beautiful is just so gratifying! Not to mention that you immediately improve your feng shui, and thats always a good thing ;-)

A table is a good first major mosaic project Wren. Anything with a flat horizontal surface is nice. Right now i'm mosaic'ing my fireplace surround, and its KILLING my back and knees! What kind of material are you thinking about using for your mosaic? Do tell!

Wren, thanks so much for getting the idea of the tribe and for posting pictures for us. I really love the work that youve done. Great taste and execution. That house is gonna really look nice in the new color too. The bathroom is fantastic. What a nice combination of colors and texture. Im thinking of doing something like your front yard in my back yard. There is absolutly nothing but a couple trees in the back. I may be picking your brain for tips once i begin. The back yard is sloped on one side and leveled with 3 retaining walls on the other half. I was thinking the flagstone with grass grout (lol) would be a nice erosion protecting texture to look at on the slope. Ive also heard that watering around hillside properties can create pressure and shifting in the soil, thats why I may keep the tiered back yard as it is. Plus I have at least one fruit tree (lime) and I hear u can easily over water citrus trees and spoil the fruit. Thanks for sharing the pics, Im proud of how busy and productive you have been, and Im appreciative you have taken some precious time to share too. I am relly getting some nice ideas from your labours.... If you need help on the table, just holler out....lorinda is a great mosaic artist...= ). N8N

flagstones will look great in the back yard! a friend of mine did her backyard garden with flagstones and planted just about everything under the sun back there - so then I had to copy :) I had quite a few break after they were in. Our path was cemented down but the rest around the yard were set in sand with dirt inbetween for planting. It is fine for walking but a number of thinner flagstones snapped in half over the next few months - probably because the sand wasn't perfectly even underneath for support.

I uploaded a couple of our guest room; it was one of those store-everything crap rooms in our basement, and two of the walls are cinderblock. They had been slowly seeping water in, so we patched them. You can see the patch work here: seattle.tribe.net/template/...text/tribe

Then we painted and added wood trim. Here's the "after" of that part:
    seattle.tribe.net/template/...text/tribe

So now we have to finish the carpet; we tore up the old carpet, which was gruesome, because of the previous owners' neglect and the mold that ensued from the moisture coming in. We're going to have someone install new carpet soon.

Then I'm going to decorate with a few pretty things to match the butter yellow and blue paint, and next year we'll get new bedroom furniture for our own room, and use the old bed and dressers in this room. Then we'll really have a guest room! :)

So this is more "before and in-the-midst-of" than before and after.

sonya, looks great so far . Very orofessional looking. The trim really sets it off. In my old home i had the same problem od moisture on one of the basement walls. One think I found did help too is making sure the soil outside that wall slopes away from the house so water runs away from the foundation, and not just sitting there soaking in. I only mention this cuz you have done so much nice work....we want to preserve it. lol. I know u have a window in that room too, so I dont know if there is room to do the soil slope but.... just trying to look out for my pals. = ).... thanks for the pics, N8N

It's good advice, thanks! There's the window, there, with a little pavement area next to it, and on the other wall it's the driveway. Do you think it would help to do some kind of sealing to those areas? So far no other moisture has come in, but I'm a little worried about how it'll do through the winter.

thats such a hard problem to fix sometimes. The best way is to dig it up outside and seal it, or put that water seal board out there, sigh....Id have to expect alot or celebrity guests before Id go thru ALL THAT..lol. short of that just try to do what u can to keep that area dry, not an easy task in your part of the world...Im so helpful.lol. I'll pray to the drainage god...N8N
