vinyl talvera flooring

I had always heard there was a period that it was the rage to cover those aweful old wood floors with faux tile vinyl floors. Well I ran across it under the carpet in one of my bedrooms. It looks like talvera style tile. Its in amazingly good shape. Im gonna try and save it to put on a wall outside the back porch. I hope its not too brittle. Its pretty cool. I got all excited and tore up the carpet in the other bedroom hoping for more, or something just as wonderful..... It was aweful 70's looking tileish in beige and rust tones....lol oh well . I hope I have teull of the cool stuff to do the wall I want. If its brittle or Im running short, I'll cut the vinyl into tile border strips, or individual tiles and paste away....

Another thing they used to do is make vinyl flooring look like a persian carpet. I was in an old 1920's era house that actually still had that goin on, it was in the living room in front of the fireplace.

I like the idea of putting it on the wall outside! I love it when art is displayed outside. i cant wait to see a pic of it! your house is just MADE for all these cool projects :-)

Hey lorinda.... Yeah Ive seen that too. Wish they had that in the other room. I love that stuff. I got it up in two big pieces. One 6ftX8ft and another 4ftX8ft. One is going on the patio wall to help with the spanish theme. Its a non permitted patio and although Its sturdy and well built, Id hesitate to do the whole wall in real ceramic tile. I had to explain so u know I dont NORMALLY vinyl floor the outside of my homes....lol. Should have it up by next weekend. Im patching walls today, and the hardwood floors should be done this week too. Then its time to decide on paint colors and pick the tile for the litchen and nook floor,,,,teee hee. Hope i find some time to sleep soon......N8N

So many projects, so little time ;-) If only we didnt have to have day jobs, we could get SO MUCH DONE! I can't wait to see pics of your house!

The designer from KraftMaid Cabinets came by yesterday to take measurements of my kitchen. Now THAT is going to be a big project! THey are ordering the cabinet stuff in November, and the contractor is scheduled for January to put it all in. I'm still so burnt out from my fireplace mosaic project, I cant even imagine doing any kind of mosaic in the kitchen. But never say never! I may get in the mood by then.

What kind of colors are you thinking about, for your walls Nathan? Check this site out, www.watercolorwalls.com
I painted 2 rooms in my house using this paint and I was very pleased! It gives you that color wash look, very rustic. I love paint, its such an easy way to make a room pop.

Who needs to sleep when you have all these fun projects to do???

darn it lorinda....... I like this stuff too. It says it will work on the orangepeel texture too. The bedrooms are treated with that. Nice colors they offer too. Im gonna make u come and help out since u are creating so much work for me...lol. How exciting to get your kitchen done. Im jealous. Mine is TERRIBLE. Its the only room I wont have pretty well the way I want it when I move in. Kitchens are so expensive to redo...and my budget is running close. I think you will recover from you mosaic burnout once u see some opportunities to mosaic arise in the kitchen. Even if its not right away, I bet u have a new mosaic in there somewhere by the the holidays 2005. I am off limits in the new house till saturday, The floor refinisher booted me out till then. I cant wait to see his work. I had to have alot of boards replaced since its a 80 year old floor. I almost made a huge judgement error and let him do the floor natural color, but i realized no spanish home is gonna have light floors, so I woke up and chose chestnut. It should help mask some of the wear on the boards that are staying too.... That paint will go good with the look I want the house to haven tho. Im thinking rich earthy colors, brick tones, reds, oranges a bit of yellow, then splashes of jewel colors tossed about for contrast... Can u please find some cool CHEAP stuff? Im on a budget.....lol. Appreciate the link. See ya round, N8N

ok you can make a paint wash yourself, a LOT cheaper than the watercolor walls stuff. all you have to do is pour some acrylic interior paint (i like to use satin or eggshell finish) in a pan, add a little water, put some gloves on, get a rag damp, ball it up, and start ragging the paint on the walls! its very in-exact, you have to play around with it to figure out how you want it to look....but its forgiving! Just make sure you start on a white wall, or it wont show up. I have the orange peel texture on my walls too, it will work for you.

I LOVE the colors you have picked for your house, those are my colors too. Thank god you picked the darker color for your floors! You'll be so much happier with that. whew, that was a close one! They will be just gorgeous.

You're prolly right about my potential kitchen projects. I have till January to get back in the mood, so we'll see! I know, kitchens are so freaking expensive. I will be so broke after that, it will be at least a year (when I can do another re-finance!) before i'll be able to afford any more projects. But i'm already lining them up in my mind....floors and the stairway are next! *laughs* and THEN the backyard!

At this rate, I will NEVER be able to retire *laughs* I need a richer husband!

whaaaaaaaa....... I think I ruined that faux tile....Im actually pretty sure of it..... For lack of space it was on the back patio in all the rain we had here..... about 10 inches over the week. Seems old lineloium (bad spelling) is on a cardboard like backing.... who knew. Im gonna try and save it but..... looks pretty sad right now...lol. bad me.

oh man, im so sorry to hear that Nathan! maybe you can save it...but if not, just let it go. i know you will be able to create an even MORE fabulous work of art for your backyard walls. maybe you can copy the pattern from the faux tile, and paint that directly on the wall? just a thought *sigh* i hate it when things dont go my way dammit! whatever you decide to do, i know it will be really cool!
